Payments by Western Union now available in Indonesia

This is a good news for Publisher from Indonesia. Last Friday Google Adsense introduced the Western Union Quick Cash as a new payment method for Indonesia. If you're located in Indonesia, you can now sign up to receive your AdSense payments in cash using the worldwide Western Union money transfer service. This payment method is quick, easy, and free -- that means no more waiting for checks to arrive in the mail or to clear at the bank.

A few things to keep in mind:
  • Payments follow our normal payment schedule and will be available for pickup at your local Western Union agent the day after they are issued.

  • You'll need to present a government-issued ID that matches your AdSense payee name when picking up your payment. If you need to update or correct the payee name listed in your account, please follow the instructions listed in our Help Center.

  • Payments by Western Union are currently only available to individual payee names, but not to businesses.

  • Payments must be picked up within 35 days of issue or they'll expire. If this happens, a payment hold will be placed on your AdSense account and the payment will be credited back to your account.

  • Payments will be made in US dollars, but depending on your local Western Union agent, they may be picked up in your local currency.
Follow these instructions if you're interested in signing up for payments by Western Union. You can also find useful information in our Help Center about exchange rates and other countries where this payment method is available. We hope you enjoy using this new payment option in Indonesia!

Tracking 100% of your feed traffic: Redirecting your Blogger feed to your FeedBurner feed

Blogger can make sure all feed traffic for your blog content goes to your FeedBurner feed. This helps make sure your FeedBurner stats are comprehensive and accurate; even subscribers to the 'Original Feed' are routed through FeedBurner. To redirect your feed:

In a new browser window, sign in to your Blogger account.

From the Blogger Dashboard, click the Settings link for the blog you want to promote.

The Settings page for your selected blog should appear.

Click the Site Feed link under the Settings tab.

Type your complete FeedBurner feed address into the Post Feed Redirect URL text field. Make sure you type in your entire feed address including the "http://" portion.

Click Save Settings.

You should see the message "Settings were Saved Successfully".

Blogger will now redirect all feed traffic for your blog to your FeedBurner feed.

Note: If you are using the redirection feature within Blogger to send all of your feed traffic to your FeedBurner feed, you may want to modify the code we provide in order to keep your subscribers with you, even if you leave FeedBurner.

AdSense: A Step-By-Step Guide

You can be up and running with AdSense in just minutes. Sure, you’ll need a bit more time if you want to use all of the advanced strategies and techniques I discuss in the rest of this book, but you don’t have to wait until you’ve figured everything out before you can start earning with AdSense.
Remember, every minute that your site isn’t showing online or isn’t showing ads, you’re tossing money down the drain.

If you don’t have a site yet, or if you’re not showing ads on your site, before you move on to the rest of this book, follow one of these guides. You’ll be amazed at how easy it is to start making money with ads!

Building A Blog
Blogging is probably the easiest way to get online with AdSense fast. The sites are already online, you don’t have to worry about graphics and the domains all set up.

All you have to do is sign up, write and earn!

Step 1:Surf to www.blogger.com
Complete the registration page, choose a name for your blog and pick a
template.

Step 2: Apply For AdSense Through Blogger
Another form, another two minutes. It will take a day or two before your application is approved. In the meantime, you can play with Blogger’s AdSense preview tool, and...

Step 3: Write Your First Blog Entry
Not sure what to write? Start with your family, spout off about a story in the news, put up pictures for your friends to see... it doesn’t matter. Everyone has something that occupies their mind, that interests them or that they’re good at. Put up anything. You can change it later but for now just get in the habit of writing to the Web. Once you’ve done it once you’ll see how easy it
can be — and how addictive.

Step 4: Play With Your Ads
Once AdSense has approved your application, you’ll be able to start playing with your ads. You can change the colors, fix the font size, remove the border and move them into the sidebar if you wish. You can get everything geared up and ready for...

Step 5: Bring In The Traffic
It’s taken you minutes to get your site set up. Now you have to let people know you’re online. Chapter 20 will tell you how to bring in the traffic but for now you can start by telling your friends, swapping links with your favorite sites and submitting your site to the search engines. Hold off on the paid advertising though until you’ve got enough content to make it worthwhile.

Facebook Launching the Google Adsense Killer

Earlier today Lee Lorenzen of Altura Ventures sent me a message referencing a note where he postulates about Facebook’s upcoming ad network. He brought up something that I previously hadn’t thought of: the opening of Facebook’s ad network. Imagine if Facebook, who now has access to over 50 million users’ personal information could target ads based on those profiles anywhere on the web. It’s not far fetched and it is exactly what Facebook will be announcing on November 6th when they announce the SocialAds network.

After speaking with an individual with specific knowledge of how the network is being structured, I was informed that Facebook will be leveraging the cookies installed in users’ browsers after logging into Facebook in order to target them across the web. In the instance that the user doesn’t have one of the Facebook cookies installed, ads similar to those of what Google currently provides will be displayed. Now for those wondering why on earth Microsoft would invest $240 million in Facebook (while Steve Ballmer strategically played down the value of Facebook), this is it.

Thanks to their advertising partnership, Microsoft will now be able to provide targeted ads not only based on demographic data (location, age, gender, etc), but they will also know that the person visiting your site is interested in skiing and guitar. So how much money will Facebook make from this? A ton. Higher CPMs and CPCs will create a new competitive landscape between Google and Facebook. Facebook to Google: we are gunning for you.

DFP Small Business by Google

Trinity recently conducted a review of Google Ad Manager, a hosted service for booking and running ads on your website. The Ad Manager, currently in beta release, ties into AdSense to provide a complete manual/automatic online ad sales platform, connected to the Google ad network. For example, you can sell ads to your own advertisers, but if you have not sold enough ads to fill out your inventory for a given time period, AdSense will automatically fill in the blanks.

Take a Look at Google Ad Manager

Google Ad Manager/AdSense create a method to facilitate monetization of online publishing. With many corporations publishing content that draws significant web traffic (in both the for-profit and non-profit sectors), Google’s services can be a short and inexpensive route to covering some portion of publishing costs.
The specific purpose of our review was to see if the Ad Manager system would be functional for the small non-profit publisher—in this case, a low-budget entity operating a website with approximately one million pageviews per month.

For this purpose, Google Ad Manager isn’t really ready for prime time—during our test drive we encountered several bugs, and the user interface is not yet as intuitive as we would like. It is difficult to understand how inventory forecasting works, and we ran into some system bugs in ad deployment that would frustrate less tech-savvy adopters.

However, as a result of Google’s acquisition of DoubleClick in March 2008, Google will soon be launching (and automatically upgrading all Ad Manager user to) DFP Small Business. DFP stands for “DoubleClick for Publishers. As Google puts it, “The new DoubleClick for Publishers (DFP) from Google...further leverages the combined strengths of Google and DoubleClick.”

Take a Look at DFP Small Business by Google

From what we read, DFP Small Business will refine many of the kinks that we’ve been seeing in Google AdManager. This might make it a truly viable option for the small publisher that has a respectable inventory to sell, but limited time and money to invest in managing the booking process.

This is business. It is not playtime.

You might be surprised by the number of people who complain that they do not make any significant income from their AdSense campaigns. When we ask them how many markets they're in or how many domains they have, their answer is usually 10 or 15 markets, and only 1 or 2 domains per market.
Here is another truth that many people do not want to face head-on. You cannot make any money with AdSense unless you are in a lot of markets. And within those many markets, you must have many websites if you want to really penetrate your niche market and make the most profits from that market. In today’s world, you need to have a lot of smaller sites.

So how can you do all of that?

Well, you cannot, unless you first address some important issues. In order for you to accomplish all this work, you need three things:

1) Procedures
2) Achievable Goals
3) Help

PROCEDURES: As mentioned above, in order for you to maximize your profits and exposure, you must have a lot of websites working for you. With that being the case, you need to have some system of generating a lot of websites and be able to get those sites up and running in as quick a fashion as possible. So how about an assembly line metaphor? Let’s assume you want to get into 20 markets. One way to do this would be for you to do the keyword research for all 20 markets. Then purchase your domain names. Then setup your hosting accounts. And lastly build and upload your web pages. Your procedure, in this case, allows you to work in a systematic, organized way which is much more efficient than attempting to build each site, one at a time,
and one domain at a time.

ACHEIVEABLE GOALS: Anyone who is self-employed, either full time or part time, understands the importance of setting realistic goals and then achieving those goals. You need to set daily, weekly, and monthly goals to keep yourself on track and give yourself a clear picture of where you are and where you want to go.
Your goal list is your roadmap to success. However, each goal that you set for yourself must be achievable. Do not set your goals so high that failure is almost assured. That sort of action will kill your selfconfidence
and cause you to lose faith in your work. If you are just getting started out, you might set a monthly goal of 10 markets, with 3 domains per market.
Is that too much?
How about starting with 5 markets with 2 domains per market?
You would then set weekly and daily goals to ensure that you meet (and even exceed) the goals you set.
Without goals you can't keep score, and if you can't keep score you don't know if you're winning or losing in business, or in life, for that matter.

HELP: The last element that is vital to your success is help. In order for all the work to get done, you will need to outsource as much as possible.
This is vital. You must understand why outsourcing is so important. Your mission is to perform a task only until you know it well enough to teach someone else how to do it. The faster you can duplicate yourself, the faster you
can expand your business as you focus on the most profitable actions that need to be taken. For this to work, you have to be management, not grunt. Our entire page generation business is 100% outsourced. We have one person who selects my markets, another does the keyword research for those markets, and yet another who actually builds and manages all my pages. This frees us up to concentrate on the markets that are truly profitable. It allows us the time and the mental space to think through our next move. That freedom to think would be greatly diminished if we had to spend the majority of our time doing work that others can do just as well, and, in some cases, better than us.
